Smoked Oak
Quercus robur
To achieve the distinct tones of Smoked Oak, I employ a process called "Ebonising" - a technique dating back to when furniture makers would blacken ordinary wood to mimic the look of exotic, expensive African ebony.
The Ebonising process triggers a chemical reaction between the tannins in the oak and a specialized solution, altering the material's color at the atomic level. Unlike a simple surface stain or dye, this method penetrates deep within the wood's cells, permanently changing the tone from within.
By adjusting the concentration of the Ebonising solution, I'm able to produce the three distinct fumed oak shades that I offer, each imbued with a subtle, luxurious depth of color . The warm oak tones provide a rich canvas, upon which three distinct stages unveil a captivating interplay of greys, purples, and silver hues. Deepening in colour and intensity throughout the three stages.
