Durning my time on a art residency in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland,

I was drawn to the formations on the dramatic landscape and how it was gently blanketed by the symbiosis of fungi and algae . The land is shaped by the extremities of sea and rock, the perfect environment for lichen to flourish.

The symbiosis paints it’s colour palette across the landscape, but when examined closely it mimics the meandering of water in its formation.

I impressed the lichen directly onto my etching plates, I felt that the beauty of their structures were enough for the simplicity of my prints.

As an artist I often feel that natures composition is beautiful enough

and I’m just a translator.
